Amazon Chime, the tech giant’s underwhelming alternative to Zoom and Google Meet, is shutting down for good. The company on Wednesday confirmed it will end support for Chime, including its Business Calling features, on February 20, 2026.

They made you use it if you ever had to talk to enterprise support for Amazon web services. It had similar vibes to WebEx conferencing. They have been dog fooding it internally for years, but Amazon doesn’t know UI/UX so this isn’t shocking to me.

Chime was a piece of shit. But it had a killer feature. If you had a meeting, and you accepted it, that shit would blow up your screen to join. I NEED that.

I am so desensitized to the constant onslaught of work notifications that a little popup just doesn’t cut it for me.

    If anyone has suggestions, lmk.Gobless

Chime sucked ass and was complete trash. It seems most people I have met with from AWS couldn’t stand it either.

Zoom is still a thing and generally has better performance than Google Meet or whatever the fuck that Microsoft solution is.

Cisco WebEx is just slowly dying and should have been put down years ago.

some you can at least join and use without an ‘app’ or an install, via browser.

yea, i think i did browser only on google meets, Webex only used once for an interview for one of the national labs run by the dod, they were quite specific about downloading the thing, so i did. Teams was already installed for previous job

is there a generally recommended foss alternative? self host servers ok.

I have some people that want to do zoom meetings for some stuff but not only is it closed source, shitty in general, and counterintuitive, it has a time limit. Like what the actual fuck…

I don’t know of any personally, but if someone was to develop it, the North Star should be Around imo.

      https://www.around.co/

It’s one of the best video conferencing apps I’ve ever used. I’ve used them all, even obscure ones you’ve probably never heard of. Miro Labs is unfortunately shutting Around down in a month though after acquiring it and folding whatever bits they wanted into their own software.
