Somebody ought to figure out what these romance mangaka are smoking these days to give their works satisfying, wholsome endings (and see if we can spare some to the Shounen authors).

Why not? Do you not want them together? Do you want the constant pussyfooting around the romance? And I guess most of all, what does it matter?
I just want to see them go through more experiences together?
Then writer probably only wanted to do it for a little bit longer. So given a finite end in the real world it’s nice to have some closure.
