For this Friday Movie Night, first up is Argentina, 1985 (2022), an Argentinian courtroom drama about a team of lawyers aiming to punish the ex-leaders of the overthrown fascist military junta (1976-83) for their crimes against humanity, in what remains by far the largest regime-change prosecution effort in Latin American history. And, uhh, the lawyers kinda succeeded? Well, for a little while, anyway. It is the only notable work to date of director Santiago Mitre; he is a one-hit wonder so far. This won a bunch of awards, so we’ll give it a whirl.

After that is Holiday (1938), a screwball romantic comedy starring Cary Grant as a finance-bro who becomes infatuated with the daughter (Katharine Hepburn) of a rich banker. They hit it off and become engaged, but he wants to go on a holiday, while she wants him to go work in her dad’s bank. Hilarity ensues as he wrangles with his soon-to-be in-laws over his expected subservience to the family business. This is one of the highest-rated movies of the 1930s on Letterboxd, as well as one of the best films of prolific Hollywood workhorse George Cukor, so let’s check it out.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Hextube, right here:
