Anime. There are plenty of great shows I like, and seemingly no way to discuss them with people who are actually normal about it.
Agreed.
Also to point out that Anime itself doesn’t really help its own cause here. Every show, even the decent ones, will have some weirdly out-of-the-blue softcore porn scene or outrageous outfit on an underaged high school student with oversized proportions, which does nothing to bring the story further, before they go back to the best fight scene you’ve seen this decade.
Too true. It’s like, you casually watch anime and you try talking to some people about it. You’ll mostly run into people who just binge watch series after series and they’ll start acting like as if you need an encyclopedia at the ready to decipher what they’re talking about.
There’s almost no in-between with lots of anime fans.
But nothing will be anymore discomforting than some loser who will treat an underage looking character as their ‘waifu’.
I know it’s true about anyone way, waaayy too into their hobby, but some anime fans in particular need to chill way out, especially where it intersects with coming to Japan and being super creepy to others, particularly after a few drinks.
What shows do you like?
Bocu No Pico
Cool, I should check that one out.
Damn, this one is brutally true. Like all media, 90% of anime is crap, but the good shit is real good and half the people who are into it are weird gooners.
Love video games; hate the stereotypical “gamer.”
Used to be Star Wars. Then my interest fizzled altogether anyway.
I feel like most sci-fi fandoms are like that. There are good bunches, then loud minorities that are either bigoted, excessive about details they don’t like, or both
Yep, my enthusiasm about most everything fizzled because of the toxic nature of fandoms. The Satisfactory fan base is pretty chill though so that one is OK for now
Cars. Love me some good engines and nice classic muscle builds, but Holy fuck I swear to christ 95% of all the mouth breathing troglodytes that are into “cars” but spend half of the show talking about God Trump this and God Trump that make me want to put my Cadillac in a fucking crusher.
I’m a medium car lover and honestly I’d probably be more into it if this wasn’t the culture hahaha
Yeah. Along the same lines is off roading. Can’t hit up an OHV spot without seeing a trump banner, some blue line decals, or a don’t tread on me flag.
Decades worth of cultural work to be done to build men who arent scared and insecure little boys, war more likely to pull them back to reality unfortunately. And so it goes.
They assume if you’re not a fat alcoholic that you don’t know how to fix cars. They’re also repeating the same dumbass jokes like “replace your blinker fluid”.
Linux
Whats so bad about linux folk?
It seems unfair to bash them
They’re just a shell of their former selves
That’s does seem to be the root of the problem.
I find them to be overprivileged
they have a terminal illness
What a korny joke…
weird socks
I second that. Ask 5 people, get 10 answers and the others are obviously wrong.
Also everyone should use Linux and everything can be done via GUI, but I obviously use terminal for everything so i can’t tell you how to fix it in GUI. Oh, sorry, you need to know how to use the terminal for that specific error you are having.
Guns
Cannabis. Most of the community is still pretty cringe and it isn’t the wonder drug people think it is; it is wonderful though.
I remember watching this pro legalize it documentary years ago. Man they followed the most was a medical dispensary owner. He was an mildly autistic white guy (similar to my son, high functioning) with some serious cornrows, and wore over the top brightly colored baggy clothes.
The part I remember is him rushing to go speak in front of a large group of people on the topic of legalization. He had to make a quick stop at his business, even though it wasnt usual business hours, so he could get an edible to take before he spoke.
Rick & Morty for me. I thought it’s a funny show, at least the first couple seasons I watched of it. I stopped watching it because of how obnoxious the fans are, actually ruining the show for me. It got to a point where I’d watch an episode, hear a joke get repeated, and think to myself “Oh great, this will be the line that I hear everybody saying for the next six months”, to the extent that I get distracted by my own annoyance. Now I have this mental association with the show and the fans and I just can’t stand to watch it anymore.
This was all before the shit with Roiland came out, for what it’s worth. But that’s another reason I struggle to enjoy the show anymore.
on the last point: Roiland is now completely out. And the even managed to find voice actors who can copy the voices perfectly
Also: the replacement for him and how they explain the change on Solar Opposites is hilarious.
They did a really good job. I was catching up on the show the other day and I knew Roiland got replaced at some point but I didn’t know when. So I waited for the voices to noticeably change and after I finished season 7 I realized I already watched an entire season with the new voice actors without realizing.
I never understood not watching a show because of the fanbase. I watch plenty of shows without ever interacting with the fandom at all.
What’s stopping you from watching the show without visiting discussion forums or reading youtube comments about it?
Rick & Morty
Anime, just in general
Sonic the Hedgehog
Nintendo games
Years of fandom have made me one jaded mfer.
I have hobbies that are considered masculine and more popular amongst folks who lean to the right politically. It makes it hard to form any friends group. Hobbies are firearms, amateur radio, and cars.
I used to like the band Tool, but I don’t like people who like Tool so much that I stopped listening to Tool regularly.
then you hear about the $2700 festival debacle. living up to their name these days.
I didn’t hear about this. What happened?
Video games
I’m a transhumanist, but a lot of transhumanists are right wing lolberts.
