In the real world I’d take the mountain house. In a fantasy world where rising sea levels aren’t a thing to worry about I’d take the beach house.

I like mountains fine but the sea calms my soul like nothing else.

      the sea calms my soul

As long as you don’t look under the surface.

Oceans be scary. (but still great, that’s why I joined the navy once)

In your lifetime, rising sea levels won’t be an issue. In your kids lifetime is a different story, but we still got another 50+ years before sea levels will rise to a significant degree.

Is that true? I regularly see on the news that the climate changes faster than the scientists expected and that they have to adjust their models.

Sea levels are predicted to rise about “0.63–1.60 m (2–5 ft) mean sea level rise by 2100, and that by 2150, the total sea level rise in this scenario would be in the range of 0.98–4.82 m (3–16 ft) by 2150” (Fox-Kemper et al. 2021) so not really a noticeable amount in most of our lifetimes. The amount it rises will probably exceed these predictions as our CO2 emissions show no sign of decreasing anytime soon and gestures wildly at everything. But sea level rise is predominantly caused by thermal expansion of the oceans, not necessarily glacial melting, contrary to popular belief. Basically, as the earth gets warmer, most of the heat is absorbed by the oceans since they make up such a significant portion of our surface, and the water molecules expand causing the volume to increase.

Edit: not sure how to properly put a block quote on here

No, it’s not true. Rising sea levels are causing an increase in storms and danger which have already started taking out beach property.

If we’re talking Pacific Ocean and no climate change yep that one hands down. No thanks to a pool, hot tubs can be fun but really just eh after a time. Beach is life man.

Mountain House if solar/wind are feasible and I have sufficient clearing to grow my own food.

    Otherwise, regular house.

I like mountains, hiking, biking, and I want to become self-sufficient where possible. And my wife wants cows and chickens, I don’t think they would do well on a beach, especially when sea levels start noticeably rising.

If utilities and internet speed and stuff are a non-issue (all things are equal), mountain house.

    Otherwise, beach house.

Honestly, I like swimming, but I’d rather have a normal ass house than have to deal with pool maintenance.

The first thing that came to mind when I read the question is maintenance lol. Salt is bad for a lot of things, and maintaining a pool is expensive. If the hot tub in the mountain was manual, probably that?

Currently got a beach (holiday) house and I could never imagine switching it with a mountain house/cabin or just a pool. Waking up in the summer to the sound of sea gulls and taking a fresh morning bath in the ocean can’t be beat.

A mountain cabin would be the second choice. I got an uncle who built his own cabin in the mountains after retiring, it’s nice and quiet, but other than hikes there’s isn’t much to do.

Just go to the local swimming hall if you want a pool.

If there’s good surf at the beach house, that. Otherwise mountain house with hot tub. Pools get boring and are annoying to maintain.

Mountain house with a hot tub. Then I don’t even need a bug out location for the upcoming civil war 👍

Plus, I can get more animals and a bigger garden.
