Modern tech makes it hard for me to take science fiction seriously anymore that involves humans piloting space fighters, manually aiming weapons, or even being effective on battlefields. We’re rapidly reaching a point where warfare will be strictly in the realm of machines.

While everbody was calling the Biden administration genocidal, they were negotiating the Gaza ceasefire that took effect a few days before Trump’s inauguration. Funny how nobody is talking about that. Harris wouldn’t be expelling immigrants, threatening to fire 2 million federal workers, purging diversity, gender, climate change, etc from government documents, and defunding anybody who objects. Single-issue voters are pouty idiots. And now here we are with a fucking dictator.

I can’t upvote this strongly enough. Social media is doing everything in the establishment’s favor - especially ingraining the habit of glancing at a news item and making an instant value judgement with minimal thought before scrolling along to the next item. It’s not just that endless scrolling and venting take time away from real action, it’s the encouragement of superficial thinking. People who get all their info from memes are solid gold to con men like Trump who depend on triggering simplistic kneejerk conclusions. They got conservatives to worship him by not thinking too much, and they can do the same to liberals.

I said describing the process of creating a business with the single word “capital” is meme-level thinking. So is posting a picture of some books to pretend to be smart when you don’t have anything of substance to say. This is what Idiocracy looks like. Even though I lean heavily toward socialism and believe an open source society is our future, we’ve got to move beyond memes and kindergarten oversimplifications of capitalism. Every industry and business empire ultimately starts with clever individuals working very hard on ideas that turn out to be better in some way than what’s already around, so they can grow and grow to become giant corporations. Over the course of time a lot of people get involved who don’t work any harder than a normal person but are just paid a lot more, and others simply inherit the money. Those are really ones everybody gets upset at,. The innovators and entrepreneurs deserve recognition and reward, we just have to find a way to do that without creating oligarchs and vast blocks of wealth.
