PM: “How long is developing this feature going to take?”

Me: “Due to all the refactoring that’s needed --which I’ve been repeatedly bringing up for two years – just to implement it, it’s going to take about 6 months.”

PM: “Is there any way you can have it ready for the release in two weeks?”

Me: “No.”

PM: Proceeds to tell everyone that it will be ready for the release in two weeks.

My MIL: “They better not be singing the ‘black national anthem’ again.”

Me: “I know, right? I don’t understand why some people think they need to sing hymns at the super bowl.”

My MIL: Visible confusion

Hit the nail on the head. American culture has become increasingly apathetic and cynical in recent years. There’s a lot of factors at play but I would say the concentration of wealth and resulting decline of the middle class as well the erosion of a sense of community are two key factors behind this.

Corporations: “We will literally do anything to avoid giving our employees dedicated workspace where they can do their job uninterrupted.”

Don’t look at me. I voted five. And then when the scrum master was like, “jubilationtcornpone, are you ok with it being a three?” I said “No.” But someone who thought they knew better decided it was going to be a three anyways.
